She’s also unbelievability gorgeous.

She stumbled on the second-to-last hurdle in the Women’s 100m event and lost her chance at a medal in Beijing yesterday — even though she had a big lead and was opening it up before the misstep.

LoLo posts on her own website, but for a few facts: She’s an 11-time All-American, 3-time NCAA champion at LSU, and she won the World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain this year by taking the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.80.

Her beauty may come from a unique mixture of genes. LoLo is French, Native American, African American. and Norwegian.

She matches her outer looks with inner beauty, being involved in a number of charities and even donating part of her Olympic qualifying winnings to help a struggling family in Iowa.

I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but it’s amazing to read all the responses we’re getting to both our several Twilight features and our well-written “Twilight Sucks” opinion piece.

It’s amazing how far we’ve come…

I used to go to the one on Newbury Street in Boston … I was friendly with the girl that worked there. She’s a few years older than me and real down to earth with that North Shore accent and attitude. It was like walking into the bar — she knew my name, what I was having, etc. She even offered a cigarette on a particularly stressful day. Newport box.

Anyway, she’s not there anymore and I moved to the South Shore, so I walked into the store in Norwood last week and I said “I’d like to order my contacts please.”

Would you guess what the lady said to me? She said no!

Apparently, in Massachusetts, contact lenses are considered prescription medical gear on the same level as Percocet and Xanax, and you can’t order them without a yearly full eye exam and prescription.

Now, on a scale of 1-100, 1 being blind and 100 being perfect vision, my eyes are about a 42. Even if, somehow, between being 23 and 24 years old my vision slipped to 41, why the hell should I have to pay $200 for an eye exam FOR THE PRIVILEGE of spending another $200 on contact lenses? Who made this law up, and why does it still exist!

I just want my contacts!

None of them are covering the Olympics.

In fact, the only serious coverage Blast has given the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing consisted of the three pieces I did on the American that was killed Saturday.

And this sample of the rest of our coverage: Bush watches beach volleyball — Drew more visitors than ALL THREE serious stories.

Why? Two reasons. First, the writers of those blogs don’t give a shit about the Olympics. Second, because nobody that reads Blast seems to give a shit about the Olympics.

Our readers seem to care about the men’s basketball team, the soccer teams, how many medals we won, and hot men and women. (Chicks LOVE Phelps)

Maybe we’re totally wrong. Yes, we’ll definitely cover anything big that happens or any further tragedy. But, for serious coverage, we put a big banner on the top of our sports page, linking to The Boston Globe’s absolutely awesome Olympics coverage.

And if I had that kind of web design talent, an Associated Press membership and a dozen or so reporters abroad … I’d still probably not have Blast cover the olympics. I’d have us go the Salon.com route and cover hard international news, like Dan Peleschuk did for Blast Sunday.

It will be hard to top this.

The game’s developer, SilverBirch Studios, put out a press release thanking us and GamingExcellence, which gave N+ an award for best PSP game.

“This is obviously a great honor for us,” said Wojtek Kawczynski, Senior Vice President, SilverBirch Studios. “Winning two awards at E3 further validates the quality of N+ and is a reflection of the passion that went into the making of the game.”

The majority of these have come this year. It’s still just as exciting to see my work in the Globe as it was when I worked my way up from obituaries as a co-op student working weekends. I believe I’m making the right move by freelancing and sticking close to this newspaper while I start grad school in journalism.

It’s funny to see how far I’ve come from a criminal justice student, to a future publicist, to a news reporter.

There needed not be an E3 sketchbook, because the webcomic geniuses at PA summed up the entire three and a half days in one simple comic.

And then they finished the job in their single E3 blog post:

No doubt the proprietors of Ladies’ Home Journal were breathless during Nintendo’s presentation, but those outside of that august body may derive less enjoyment. This is the deep-dish, delicious irony endured by the Nintendo stalwart: to see their platform of choice ascendant, even as their bright God turns his face away. Though it contained very little sustenance for our kind, the presentation was (as is typical) a confident, refined affair. The salvo was not a failure. It was simply aimed elsewhere.

That was E3 this year. More promises of future promises promising future promises and no real substance out of the big three.

If the big three didn’t bore you to death, there was some actual content at E3 this year, including the rise of Atari, the balls descending on Electronic Arts and an awesome looking Fallout 3.

And there were some sleepers and a movie announcement. Yay.
