Feature obituary, September 18, 2006.

I was proud to have written Jacques Downs’ obituary. Some people don’t like to write obits, but I was glad to give the Downs family a public memory of their father and grandfather. The man lived a great life, too, which was certainly worth telling the world about.

    I would have been happy to read a much fuller obituary. While noting his exceptional generosity to students and others, it seemed to skim over or pass over entirely facets of his life that might have been worth exploring.
