If you want something small, go with the canon sd630. There's nothing else in its price range that can compare to it
There's the new Panasonic with a 10x optical zoom and image stabilization, but it’s a bulky camera in comparison to the SD series and the picture quality isn't nearly that of the canon's. However, my only grievance with the SD630 is that due to its immense 3.0" LCD screen, it lacks a viewfinder, which I find to be inconvenient as the LCD drains the battery very quickly, and by choosing a slightly different Sd series model (say, the sd600, a camera who's features are the exact same as the sd630, just with a smaller screen) with a viewfinder, you can turn the lcd off and use the viewfinder in times that your battery life is low and still be able to take pictures for quite a bit longer that way.
However, if you don’t mind a slightly smaller screen but with a viewfinder, look into either the sd600, which is $349, as I mentioned above, is 6 MP, 3x optical/4x digital zoom, or the sd700, which is $499 but has 4x optical zoom/4x digital zoom, and 6 MP with the best optical image stabilization on the market.
